RACECAR | Field notes | Planning a launch

What to build
before you launch.

RACECAR connects product strategy, industrial design, mechanical engineering and prototyping—with brand and launch expertise available from the same team.

1. Define the next decision

Do you need an investor to understand the opportunity, a user to test a prototype, or a customer to buy? Each situation needs a different level of detail. Write down the audience, the decision and the evidence required to support it.

2. Separate what is known from what is assumed

List customer evidence, technical constraints, tested functionality and open questions. Product renders can explain an idea, but should not be presented as proof of a working product. A clear distinction helps the team plan the next test.

3. Decide what the brand needs now

Before funding, a clear value proposition, name, core message and consistent presentation may be enough. A launch usually calls for more applications: identity, website, packaging and sales material. See branding before and after funding.

4. Give the pitch a specific job

Gather the evidence and assumptions behind the market, business model and funding need before polishing the slides. The narrative should make the logic easy to follow. Our Pitch & Brand Readiness offer connects that story with a focused visual direction.

5. Choose the right kind of prototype

An appearance model, an ergonomic model and a functional prototype answer different questions. Decide what you are testing before selecting the build approach. Allow time to interpret the results and revise the design. Explore hardware development and prototyping.

6. Plan the production handover

Agree who owns the mechanical design, electronics, software, supplier coordination and required testing. Define the documentation needed for the next stage. Production readiness is a set of technical and operational decisions, not simply the completion of an attractive prototype.

7. Connect the product to the launch

Check that the website, deck, packaging and product use the same names, claims and visual direction. Specify what is available now and what is planned. Link each audience to the information it needs through a clear launch website.

What needs to
move forward?

Tell us what you are building, where the project stands and which decision or milestone comes next. A current deck, brief, prototype or even an unresolved question is enough to begin. We will recommend a focused starting point, the people required and a clear scope.
